Recap...the final chapter, finally!

Okay, this is the last part of my catching up to the present with my long-neglected blog. Let's get back to where we left off, shall we...

February '09 - Jacob's school had a special awards ceremony for the third grade. Jacob got a certificate and ribbon for having straight A's on his report card and also a certificate for showing responsibility.

Way to go, Jacob!!

March '09 - Since we didn't go away over spring break, we decided to do a day trip up to Waco to visit the Dr. Pepper museum. Who knew there was a museum for Dr.Pepper?

Spring baseball started up at the end of March. Jacob has a good friend, Jared, who lives around the corner from us. Lucky for Jacob, Jared loves baseball and all sports as much as Jacob does. They play outside together for hours either playing catch or practicing batting with tennis balls or playing football. This is them on the day of opening ceremonies for baseball.

Caleigh turned 12 and has graduated into Young Women's at church. This means she gets to go to all the activities for kids 12 -17 yrs old and is no longer grouped with the 3 - 11 yr olds. She's feeling very grown up now. She's really excited about going away to girl's camp in June for 5 days/4 nights.

Exactly a week before her birthday and in the middle of spring break, she had surgery to remove her adenoids and tonsils.

No, we weren't trying to make her life miserable (I know that's what you're thinking). We just wanted her to miss as little school as possible, because it's getting harder and harder to make up missed work now that she's in middle school. It's not like it used to be when she was in elementary school. Anyway, surgery went well and she recuperated fairly quickly. She was almost back to normal by her birthday.

April '09 - Our good friends, the Pennellas, from back in New York, came to Texas and spent a weekend with us. We went to Sea World in San Antonio with them. The kids all had a great time together. It's so funny that even though we don't see each other often, they all get along as if they see each other all the time. We really enjoyed having them here.

Jacob participated in his first pinewood derby for cub scouts. He named his car "dragon racer". His car did pretty well. He raced four times, and came in second in three of the races and in first place in one of them. Pretty good for a first timer, I think.

One last thing that happened with us in April is that Jacob and Paige came down with whooping cough. Good times. There's no end to what you can pick up at school in addition to an education! This school year has been the sickest one yet for our kids, and I hope we don't have a repeat of this next year. It's been crazy! Now we've got swine flu to worry about. All interscholastic sports and extracurricular activities including field trips around here have been cancelled or postponed because of it. I think the media has created more hype than is necessary over all of this.
Then again, I never thought we'd catch whooping cough either. Maybe homeschooling isn't so crazy after all! Just kidding.
That's it, that's all for now folks. Check back occasionally, I may actually start keeping this blog up to date. Hey, you never know!

YAY! I am soooooo happy that you updated the blog. It was getting kind of boring seeing the same year old Sea World picture at the top of your blog. Sounds like you guys have been super busy, but having fun! Good luck not getting the swine flu. I am nagging my students constantly about washing their hands, hoping that I won't get swine flu. We'll see what happens.

Hope you guys are doing good!
